Weekend update on NaNoWriMo

This weekend has been good for NaNoWriMo.

My goal was to get to 15,000 words. As of the time right now, I'm sitting comfortable at 15,873. I hope to get to 17,000 by the end of the night. It'd be really nice to get to the halfway mark by the middle of this week.

My outline is coming along slowly, but for the chapters that I'm writing right now, I'm speeding through them. And I'm learning who my characters are, what they are about, who they like, so forth. It's a shame I never got to do this in the past 4 years, but with college and all that, I doubt I'd ever had completed it.

I will complete this one though. Yes, I will.

Anyone else doing NaNoWriMo? Let me know how it's coming for you!

I cleared 4000 words last night, so right now, you are way ahead of me.

But I'm doing something with it everyday, so I at least feel good about that.

Making time doesn't get any easier as you get older and load up on the responsibilities, though.

Keep up Rob!

As long as you put some work into it every day you should be doing fine by the time Nov. 30 rolls around.

And yes, I'm lucky to be young enough to not have too many responsibilities to worry about.

Prior to Nov 1, I took a break of sorts from writing fiction, for about 4 months. I just couldn't find time for it.

If nothing else, NaNoWriMo is getting me back into the habit and giving me a weekly structure of when I can write.

I think it was Robert Silverberg who told my oldest son at the Nebulas a couple of years ago that the whole secret of his success was writing 1000 words a day, every day.
Of course, Silverberg was there to accept his grandmaster, so perhaps he was being a trifle bit humble :)
Still, if you are not writing, you are not learning the craft, you only move forward by moving forward--- anyone who sails knows that you can only steer a boat that is in motion.
